Hi Everyone,
Here is the fourth challenge, titled 'The Desert Journey'. Following is the task:
The Task : Your task will be to create a Matte-Painting of a desert environment.
The Rules:
1. Each contestant must create a Work In Progress (WIP) Thread/Topic in this forum, in order to participate in the contest.
2. The Subject of the WIP Thread/Topic must be like this : The Desert Journey - (your name); for example, if your name is Thibault Houdon then, you must write, The Desert Journey - Thibault Houdon.
3. The width of the WIP Matte-Painting images must be 750 pixels.
Final Entry Thread : A Final Entry Thread will be posted on June 21st, 2012 wherein the contestants will be required to post their final Digital Matte-Painting entries in 1300 px X 700 px (minimum) resolution.
Deadline : June 30th, 2012 (11:59 PM - Pacific Standard Time).

FREDERIC ST-ARNAUD : Frederic St-Arnaud is a visual effect artist with 14 years of experience, focusing on high-end photo-realistic Digital Matte-Painting, set extension and concept art in the film industry. St-Arnaud has contributed to many feature films, commercials television and a TV series. His film credits include Terminator Salvation, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Death Race, Babel, Silent Hill, Sin City, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Spy Kids 2 & 3, The Golden Compass which won the best visual effects Academy Awards and more...!

DAVID B. MATTINGLY : David Burroughs Mattingly worked at the Walt Disney Studios, ultimately becoming head of the matte department. He worked on "The Black Hole", "Tron", "Dick Tracy", Stephen King's "The Stand" and most recently "I, Robot" for Weta Digital in New Zealand. David teaches Digital Matte-Painting at two of New York Cities finest arts schools, School of Visual Arts and Pratt Institute. Along with his work as a Matte-Artist and teacher, David is well known for the over 1000 science-fiction book covers he has produced! He has also written the first-ever how-to book on Digital Matte-Painting, known as "The Digital Matte Painting Handbook".

RONN BROWN : Ronn Brown is a veteran digital media educator, art director and Matte-Painting Supervisor, and a member of the Florida Film and Entertainment Advisory Counsel appointed by the State of Florida's Governor in 2011. Also, he is a member of the Visual Effects Society (VES), an adjunct faculty for Digital Domain Institute, full time faculty of visual effects and animation at Miami International University of Art & Design, and was the Graduate Director of Computer Arts and Animation at the Academy of Art University (AAU) in San Francisco, CA. Over his 20-year career, Ronn has also held artist and supervisory positions in matte painting and art direction at Sony Pictures Animation, DreamWorks Animation, Rhythm & Hues, Framestore, Weta Digital, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) and other top studios, working on films including Kung Fu Panda, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Men in Black, The Lord of the Rings : The Return of the King, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Star Wars : Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, and many more...! He holds a BFA from the University of Michigan and is in the Masters of Visual Arts program at the Miami International University of Art & Design.

JORIK DOZY : Jorik Dozy is an international CG Certificate student from the Netherlands. He works as a Digital Matte-Painter at the Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). He is also the Founder and the Director of "The Luminarium", an international art collective. Jorik is an alumni of the Gnomon School of Visual Effects and was a Matte-Painter at the Gnomon Studios. His feature film credits include "The Avengers", "Mission : Impossible - Ghost Protocol", "Transformers : Dark of the Moon", "Green Lantern", "Pirates of the Caribbean : On Stranger Tides" and "I Am Number Four". RICH MAHON : Rich Mahon has been working as a Matte-Painter, concept artist and VFX art director in the film industry for 14 years. He worked as an illustrator for 22 years prior to films. Rich is the Lead Environment Artist (Matte Painting Supervisor) at Rhythm and Hues Studios in Los Angeles, where he has worked for the last 6 years. Currently, he is the Environment Art Lead on Ang Lee's "Life of Pi". Previous films include "The Mummy : Tomb of the Dragon Emperor", "The Golden Compass", "The Kingdom", "Night at the Museum", "Fast & Furious", "The Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring", "The Matrix Reloaded", "The Matrix Revolutions", "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" and many more...!
